Exploring Biblical Themes

by Stewart Novels

The topics within Exploring Biblical Themes seek to infuriate and invigorate the biblical student. The questions aim to challenge and enlighten Christians by enriching the depth of church-structured Bible studies. Themes not only clarify the unsavory passages in Scripture but also present an alternative view grounded in Dr. Stewart’s exegetical approach, utilizing the Hebrew language. The topics within do not challenge your belief in God, but will direct you away from understanding God as vengeful to seeing a broken-hearted God whose only desire is for humanity to love God and to love one another. His questions require logical thinking and personal introspection, but the reward is worth the journey.

Blacklisted

A Greek Apology

When a simple offer to explain how Jesus spent three nights in the grave led to Dr. Stewart's email address blocked and blacklisted by his church newspaper, he decided to include the explanation in his latest novel, Blacklisted. Along with that revelation, he has explored many of the sensitive issues clergy tend to avoid. Examples are, why is Solomon's wisdom still revered when he committed every abomination conceivable: Dinah was not raped; how is it the Samson is still considered a Nazarite and Judge when all he ever did was drink, fight, and bed foreign women; and much much more?

Unpacking the Biblical Narrative

Dr. Stewart illustrates how the six days of creation parallel the theory of evolution; explains why Pharaoh Thutmose III allowed the people of Goshen to travel three days into the wilderness to sacrifice and why he took chase ten days later; reveals the Talmud’s record of Nitzevet, King David’s mother; reminds us that images of a deity are an abomination to God and that we are not to have steps leading up to crafted altars; why Solomon had the Temple stones cut in the quarry and assembled without metal tool in Jerusalem; Ezekiel’s vision of elders inhaling acacia trying to breathe new life into the sacrificed high priest under the Temple. In the New Testament, we learn why Pilate condemned Jesus to crucifixion, how he died on the cross and spent three full nights in the grave, as prophesied, before being raised on the third day by God the Father; he reveals the correct translation of the faith, hope, and charity passage; and much more.

Judean Ghost Tales

Volume One

Judean Ghost Tales is a series of short stories that delve into the personal lives of the biblical heroes and heroines we know so little about.
Book One – Rebekah reveals why God chose 14-year-old Rebekah to be the wife of 40-year-old Isaac. Please realize that even in the 21st century, there are Eastern cultures that treat women as voiceless chattels. They believe a woman’s sole purpose is to satisfy their husband’s needs and desires, as well as provide an incubator for his seed. The courage it took for Rebekah to break a tradition of silent subservience is extremely rare in biblical times. When you finish reading, ask yourself why the scribes included her husband’s name in the ancestral line of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Book Two - Luke begins with the early life of the Greek physician, Lukas Galenus, the man who became the faithful friend of the Apostle Paul and chronicler of his evangelical mission. No one knows what caused him to give up a lucrative medical practice and follow this strange little man from Jerusalem. However, we do know that Luke appeared on the scene as Paul struggles to explain why the Son of God has not returned, and converts are dying. Come, discover the heartbreak of Luke’s early life, and the chance encounter that compelled him to go in search of eyewitnesses to the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord.
Book Three – Yoel exposes the harsh realities of 1st-century life in Palestine. Follow the plight of Yoel and his two friends after avenging the death of his mother. Following the rescue of a teenage prostitute, they find employment on the estate of their Roman pursuer. After gaining the respect of their employer, the arrival of Pontius Pilate sends the group into exile once again. Not long after giving water to a thirsting stranger, the boys find themselves digging a hole through the roof of Jesus of Nazareth to lower their paralyzed friend.

Judean Ghost Tales

Saul - Dinah - Miryam

Judean Ghosts Tales is a series of short stories that delve into the personal lives of the biblical heroes and heroines about whom we know so little.
Book One is about Sha'uwl (Saul), a wealthy landowner. After rescuing the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead, the people compel the prophet Samuel to anoint Saul as the first King of Israel. Sadly, God acquiesces to the people's demands, but jealousy and the desire to keep the kingship in his family line lead to paranoia.
Book Two exposes the reason Simeon and Levi had to falsely accuse Shechem of raping their thirteen-year-old, voiceless sister Dinah. Was it repulsion to inter-tribal marriage, or the lust for wealth, for the merciless slaughter? Come, listen to Dinah's account.
Book Three relates the gospel story from Miryam's perspective. She tells of her faithful devotion to our Lord and how she was the first person to see the resurrected Christ. She recounts the callous reaction of the eleven and her disappearance from history.
Historical note:
To understand the male mindset of the time, it is essential to recognize that Canadian women achieved the right to vote in 1918, and Quebec in 1940. This exclusion stems from the ancient belief that women were like Mother Earth, an incubator for man's seed. Still today, some societies do not allow their women to have a vote or a voice. My novels break that silence.

Judean Ghost Tales

Volume Three

Judean Ghost Tales is a series of stories that delves into the personal lives of the biblical heroes and heroines we know so little about.
Book One - Eve presents the creation story from the feminine perspective. Her voice counters the male bias prevalent in sculpture. While adding a touch of humor, we hear the dialogue between God and Eve as the first couple is expelled from paradise. Eve continues narrating the tragic events that befell her children and grandchildren.
Book Two - Kaleb, the faithful young friend of Joshua and one of the least-known biblical heroes, relates firsthand the inside story of the Exodus. Adopted by Amram and Jochebed, Kaleb gives a first-hand account of family life in Goshen and the prominent role Miryam played in developing the Hebrew language. After the people of the Exodus spent forty years wandering in the wilderness, as punishment for their faithlessness, he and Joshua were the only two adult males allowed to enter the Promised Land.
Book Three - David's childhood and the turbulent struggles that culminated in his uniting twelve independent tribes into the Nation of Israel. Although history has romanticized God's beloved, the Talmud tells a slightly different story about why Jesse's family shunned his mother, Nitzevet, and him.

Diary of a Teenage Assassin

After doing Salvatore, a known mob boss, an unsolicited favour, 18-year-old Krista finds her life shattered when her parents die in a car bombing, meant for Salvatore. A slip of the tongue reveals the culprit to be a disgruntled police detective. Following the vengeful killing of the police detective, she finds herself voluntarily sliding into the dark abyss of a mob assassin. During her exploits, she discovers a psychic bond with others who suffered similar traumas. Her assassinations attract the attention of a frustrated FBI director who crosses the legal and moral line by contracting Krista’s team of assassins to execute vigilante justice on pedophiles, human traffickers, and abusers. Gum'n It

Recipes for the Chewing Challenged

Following the unpleasant experience of multiple tooth removal, I was informed there was nothing available to help me through the coming weeks in terms of "What food can I eat?" The denturist's response was, "Soft foods." Considering how your gums heal slowly and that canned soups are good for the short term, I decided to create a set of recipes that move from puree, to soft, and then solid foods. The key is nutrition, and nothing is more nutritious than fresh vegetables. Even if your level of culinary expertise is boiling water, you will develop the simple skills required in short order. In addition, you'll enjoy the accomplishment and, more importantly, the taste. Bon Appétit.
