Staying Centered Through Change
by Dr. Dennis O. Mims
Keeping Life in Balance: Staying Centered Through Change is a deeply personal and practical reflection on what it means to live a grounded, faithful, and intentional life in a world that is constantly shifting. Drawing from decades of ministry, leadership, family life, and professional experience, Dennis O. Mims offers readers more than inspiration—he offers perspective earned through real seasons of pressure, responsibility, success, disappointment, and renewal.
This book is written for people who carry weight. The weight of leadership. The weight of family expectations. The weight of calling, career, faith, and the quiet fear of losing oneself in the process. Rather than presenting balance as a perfect state to be achieved, Keeping Life in Balance reframes it as a daily discipline—one shaped by priorities, boundaries, faith, and honest self-examination.
Through vivid storytelling and thoughtful reflection, Mims walks readers through life’s peaks and valleys, exploring how moments of strength and seasons of struggle both shape character. He addresses the realities of spiritual fatigue, leadership strain, relational tension, and personal doubt with humility and clarity, reminding readers that balance is not about avoiding difficulty, but about remaining centered while moving through it.
Each chapter blends spiritual insight with practical wisdom, offering guidance on navigating change without losing direction. Themes such as faith under pressure, marriage and family responsibilities, leadership burdens, rest and renewal, and legacy-building are explored with warmth and realism. Scripture and lived experience are woven together in a way that speaks to both seasoned believers and those simply searching for steadiness in uncertain times.
At its heart, Keeping Life in Balance is about alignment—aligning faith with action, purpose with practice, and calling with care for the soul. It encourages readers to slow down enough to ask meaningful questions: What truly matters in this season? What needs attention, and what needs release? How do we lead, love, and serve well without neglecting ourselves or those closest to us?
This book is not a checklist or a formula. It is a companion for the journey—one that affirms that balance is not static, but something we continually return to through reflection, faith, and intentional living. Whether you are navigating transition, carrying leadership responsibility, rebuilding after loss, or simply seeking greater clarity and peace, Keeping Life in Balance offers steady guidance for staying centered through every season of change.
My name is Dennis O. Mims, and I write about what I know best—faith, family, and the balance it takes to hold both together while also managing a career. I’ve spent more than 32 years in ministry and just as long in the fields of nuclear engineering, project management, and radiation protection. Those two worlds—spiritual and professional—shape the stories, lessons, and encouragement I share in my books. Dennis O. Mims is a writer, minister, nuclear engineer, and project manager whose life’s work has been dedicated to helping people find balance in faith, family, and career. Raised in the South as the seventh of ten children, Dennis grew up in a home deeply rooted in church life and community service. His mother, Sarah R. Mims, served faithfully as a singer, evangelist, pastor, and founder of her own ministry, while his father, Melvin L. Mims, supported her as a devoted deacon and later as chairman deacon. From that foundation, Dennis learned the importance of faith, perseverance, and service to others. For more than 32 years, Dennis has walked in two worlds: the pulpit and the workplace. In ministry, he has served as a pastor and leader, guiding others with wisdom, encouragement, and a steady belief in God’s sustaining power. In his professional career, he has worked for over three decades as a nuclear engineer, project manager, and radiation protection specialist—fields that demand precision, discipline, and responsibility at the highest levels. This rare combination of spiritual insight and technical expertise shapes his writing and gives his work both depth and authenticity. Dennis is the author of A Life in Balance and Keeping Life in Balance: Staying Centered Through Change, the first two books in his inspirational trilogy. His books draw from real experiences and offer practical strategies for navigating challenges, staying centered through change, and leaving a legacy of faith and focus. With a writing style that blends storytelling, pastoral care, and professional insight, Dennis invites readers to reflect, reset, and find balance in every area of their lives. When he’s not writing or teaching, Dennis enjoys time with his wife, Necia, and their family. His life’s mission is simple but profound: to help others live with balance, purpose, and peace.
