The Threadbearer Chronicles

Maria and the Sons of Liberty

by ANTHONY DIFIORE

Fourteen-year-old Maria Alvarez never expected a simple school day to rewrite her entire life. But when a mysterious golden watch hurls her back to Philadelphia, 1787, she finds herself in the middle of the biggest political debate in American history—the writing of the Constitution.

Stranded in the past and hiding among the Founding Fathers, Maria discovers a dangerous secret: a traitor lurks inside the Convention, and powerful time-travelers known as the Severers are determined to destroy the Constitution before it’s even signed.

Guided by Benjamin Franklin, protected by George Washington, and helped by a brave local boy named Thomas, Maria must unlock the hidden power of her watch and expose the conspiracy before history is shattered forever.

But stopping the Severers won’t be easy.
They can appear in any era.
They can change any moment.
And they know exactly who Maria is.

As the battle for America’s future unfolds inside Independence Hall, Maria learns a truth that will change her destiny:

This was only the first thread. Six more moments in history depend on her.

Adventure, courage, and history collide in this thrilling opening to The Threadbearer Chronicles—a story about bravery, responsibility, and the power one person has to protect the world.

About The Book

Fourteen-year-old Maria Alvarez thinks a tough history quiz is the worst thing she’ll face—until a mysterious golden watch pulls her out of her school hallway and drops her straight into Philadelphia, 1787, during the creation of the United States Constitution.

Confused but courageous, Maria quickly finds herself hiding in the galleries of the Constitutional Convention. There, she witnesses fierce debates, fragile compromises, and the incredible minds of George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and the other Founding Fathers.

But Maria soon discovers a terrifying secret:
someone inside the Convention is sabotaging it.

A traitorous delegate is leaking information, stirring fear, and working to fracture the fragile trust among the states. And he isn’t acting alone. He is being manipulated by futuristic time-travelers known as the Severers, a ruthless faction trying to rewrite American history by destroying the Constitution before it exists.

When the watch chooses Maria as its bearer—marking her as a Threadbearer, a protector of pivotal historical moments—she joins forces with Thomas, a local boy, and the Founders themselves. Together, they uncover the conspiracy, expose the traitor, and fend off a direct attack by the Severers inside Independence Hall.

In the final battle, Maria unlocks a hidden power within the watch, creating a Threadlock—a burst of temporal energy that seals the signing of the Constitution permanently into history, beyond the Severers’ reach.

With their plan foiled, the Severers retreat… for now.

But the victory is bittersweet. Because the watch reveals the truth:

This was only the first thread.
Six more crucial historical moments—each vulnerable to sabotage—await her.

After an emotional farewell to Washington, Franklin, and her colonial friends, Maria is pulled back to her own time, forever changed. The watch glows once more, hinting at the next era she must travel to…

And Maria steps into the future knowing her adventure has only just begun.

His literary influences are as diverse as his writing: Dean Koontz’s psychological tension, Roger Zelazny’s mythic imagination, Isaac Asimov’s scientific rigor, James Patterson’s rapid-fire pacing, L. Ron Hubbard’s worldbuilding, and John Grisham’s tightly crafted suspense. DiFiore’s passion for storytelling began in childhood, where he filled notebooks with short stories, sketches, and early science-fiction ideas. That spark only grew stronger during his years traveling the world with the United States Air Force. He chronicled his experiences in personal journals, transforming unfamiliar places and extraordinary encounters into stories that deepened his creative voice. Those early writings—and the discipline, resilience, and global perspective gained through service—continue to shape his work today.
