Bea Starling – biology teacher and single parent – is dreading the family gathering for her parent’s ruby wedding celebration, and the old tensions with her father that will need confronting.

Ted – her father – is determined to make things right but manages to get it all wrong again, unleashing Bea’s rage during a game of charades. In an attempt to make amends, Ted faces his worst fear and dives into the swimming pool even though he can’t swim.

Granny Dil – Bea’s one beloved ally – has recently died, leaving behind only a pair of silk baby shoes that no one will talk about. Without her, Bea reassesses the entangled stories of three generations.
