Christ Centered Treatment of Addiction

by Norm Wielsch

About The Book

Finding lasting freedom from addiction requires more than just managing symptoms; it requires a transformation of the heart. In the Christ Centered Treatment of Addiction Workbook, Norm Wielsch provides a biblically grounded and clinically informed roadmap for those seeking to break the cycle of spiritual bondage.
Drawing from his extensive experience as an undercover narcotic agent and his own journey of restoration, Wielsch addresses the "problem beneath the problem"-the deep-seated trauma, shame, and spiritual voids that fuel addictive behaviors. This workbook moves beyond secular behavior modification to place the redeeming work of the cross at the center of the recovery process. Inside this workbook, you will find: A Holistic Approach: Integration of evidence-based psychology with spiritual disciplines like prayer, confession, and scripture meditation. Practical Tools: An addiction assessment, journaling prompts to uncover hidden wounds, and a personal Christian relapse prevention plan. The Christian 12-Step Program: A comprehensive guide to walking through recovery with Jesus Christ as the ultimate source of strength. Family Support: Guidance for loved ones on how to conduct a Christ-centered intervention and set healthy boundaries.
Whether you are an individual struggling with a substance or behavioral addiction, a pastor walking with the brokenhearted, or a clinician looking to integrate biblical truth into your practice, this workbook offers a sacred starting point toward a new identity.
"Addiction is not the end of your story. In Christ, it can be the beginning of something new".

Christ Centered Healing of Trauma

Norm Wielsch is a law enforcement veteran, including 16 years undercover, before PTSD, chronic illness, and opioid dependence led to a series of destructive choices and ultimately a federal prison sentence. In prison, he surrendered his life to Christ, earned advanced degrees in theology and Christian counseling, and began ministering to inmates through Bible studies, counseling, and trauma healing. Today, Norm Dr. Wielsch, D.C.C., is an addiction counselor, chaplain, and author who teaches and ministers to those suffering from trauma, addiction, and spiritual brokenness.

Norm Wielsch spent 26 years as a cop, including 16 years as an undercover narcotic agent, confronting danger and trauma on a daily basis. A seasoned police academy instructor and recognized expert in PTSD, police tactics, narcotic enforcement, pursuit driving, and first responder culture, Norm was no stranger to the high-stakes world of law enforcement. In 1998, his life took a dramatic turn when he was diagnosed with PTSD and an incurable neuromuscular disease that caused severe loss of sensation, mobility, and strength in his hands and feet. After enduring more than 30 surgeries in a 10-year period, he became dependent on opioids. Struggling under the weight of emotional pain, physical suffering, and unresolved trauma, Norm made a series of sinful choices that ultimately led to a federal prison sentence. But prison wasn’t the end of his story—it was the beginning of his redemption. In the midst of his deepest trial, Norm heard the unmistakable call of God. It was behind bars that he surrendered fully to Christ and began ministering to others who, like him, carried deep wounds. He earned a Master’s Degree in Theology, a Doctorate in Christian Counseling, and a Drug and Alcohol Counseling Certificate. While incarcerated, he preached the Gospel, led Bible studies, and counseled fellow inmates—many of whom had experienced significant trauma. Through the Christ Centered Healing process, Norm witnessed firsthand the transforming power of God to heal broken hearts and renew lives. Today, Norm is an Addiction Counselor, a credentialed Chaplain, and a passionate advocate for trauma healing and recovery. He continues to speak, teach, counsel, and minister to those suffering from the effects of trauma, addiction, and spiritual wounds. He is the author of several works, including: • The Patrol Officer’s Guide to Narcotic Enforcement (1997) • Christ Centered Healing of Trauma: Healing a Broken Heart (2020) • Christ Centered Healing of Trauma: Healing a Broken Heart Study Guide (2020) • God’s Purpose in Pain: Why God Allows Suffering (2025) • Christ Centered Treatment of Addiction (2025) • Christ Centered Healing of Trauma Workbook (2025)
