A selected history from the archives
by David Spence
17th century Ireland seen through the eyes of one small Irish town in the North West of Ireland. This history takes the archived evidence and through a series of short stories, builds into a deep understanding of what shaped this crucial period.
An artist’s multi-facetted interpretation of local histories.
David is a multi-discipline artist working under his, and his registered company name - Dappled Shadows. His work engages with the community and the creation of a positive environment for all. David is a community video producer giving voice to local people, documenting artistic endeavours and exploring local histories. David’s sculptural work engages with local histories, interpreting them both as historical events and as an expression of the human condition. He has been involved with projects, such as examining the effects of fracking on the Irish landscape, community projects that revive old skills, such as the Leitrim Chair project, and a Reminiscence project which reflected on the old SLNC Railway. His present focus engages with creating energised soundscapes and how the powerful effects of music and low frequency vibrations impact the body. David's work brings in photography and digital print manipulation that is brought together in his history publications and image diaries. These help document an artistic engagement with time and place, and his response to the wider world.
