To humans, it was just a bird feeder.
To Red, it was the place where the whole world came to tell the truth.
Every morning, when the sun crawls over the rooftops and the world starts pretending it knows what it’s doing, a small robin named Red shows up at Mrs. Jones’s bird feeder.
To the humans, he is just another bird.
But Red knows things.
He knows which houses put out seed. He knows which cats are liars. He knows which children throw crumbs and which ones throw rocks. He knows that the old man on the corner talks to his dead wife every morning like she is still sitting beside him. He knows Mrs. Jones fills the feeder at exactly 8:13, unless her knees are hurting.
And every day, Red meets the others:
Milo the loudmouth blue jay.
Pearl the gentle mourning dove.
Scratch, the mean old crow who trusts nobody.
Tiny, the chickadee who asks too many questions.
And Cardinal Jack, the red bird people believe is a sign from heaven.
At the feeder, they talk about life, death, humans, storms, hunger, fear, love, and what it means to keep flying when the world keeps changing beneath your wings.
This is not just a story about birds.
It is a story about watching life from above and realizing that humans are just animals with houses, secrets, and feeders of their own.
