The Life of Riley Living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Through A Mother's Eyes
About one out of every 5,000 boys has Duchenne, and about 20,000 babies worldwide are born with it each year. Duchenne primarily affects boys and reaches across all races and cultures. Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) estimates that there are about 15,000 young men, as well as a few young women, living with Duchenne today in the United States.
Nina Stuart Herrera is Riley's mother, also the co-Author of this book.
We were told Riley may need a wheelchair by the time he's 10 years old and be dead by 17. We needed to focus on accepting this reality.
It became abundantly clear that our family became stronger because of our hardships, but in the end, we truly found grace because we participated in Riley's life.
The Life of Riley: Living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Through A Mother's Eyes, encapsulates the extraordinary life of someone who has faced immense challenges at a young age. Riley never gave up or lost hope that a way would be found to keep him going. It has been 31 years in the making because it took this long for Riley to allow his story to be written.
It's a narrative of the family's collective journey as they grew alongside Riley and learned to understand his disease. It is nothing short of a miracle for one family with two brothers with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) who are still thriving. Greg is 62, and Dave is 59 years old, while their nephew, Riley, turned 31 on April 11, 2023, battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

In The Furtherance of Justice
Based on True Events of a DEA Agent and Two Private Investigators
Previous title: "Path of the Devil, Camino del Diablo."
"This book is an unfinished case, spanning 1991-1996, involving a Mexican cartel on the south side of the border and American politicians on the north side. It documents true events of the three men who spearheaded two separate and simultaneous investigations in different locations that eventually merged. DEA Agent Larry Hardin was provided intelligence from two Private Investigators, Jeff Pearce and Randy Torgerson. They were determined to bring down the Meraz organization.
Foreword by Michael Levine, NY Times bestselling author of "Deep Cover" and "The Big White Lie."
"A close friend and retired DEA agent recommended this book and glad he did! The corruption in our country has been growing for decades and this book is an expose of the politicians as well as lack of cooperation at almost every level of law enforcement. Thanks to the commitment of dedicated agents and Pl's who are honest and moral to share their investigation with all of us! Good vs Evil is putting it mildly!" Michael Kelly, Television Producer/Director
Feared for their lives: "It contained some harrowing moments where investigators feared for their lives and had to think quickly to save
themselves, sometimes lying their way out of trouble. This gave a great feel for the seriousness of the situation, how far the investigators would go, and how far the cartels went to hide their activities from the law." Kirkus Review
Can't Win the War on Drugs: "Have you ever wondered why we can't win the war on drugs?" unamilagra
A Powerful Story: "A powerful story filled with money, murder, corruption, and deceit. ... Gave a great feel for the seriousness of the situation, how far the investigators would go, and how far the cartels went to hide their activities from the law." Onlinbookclulb.com
Fast Paced: "The novel is fast-paced and written in a way that keeps the reader wondering what will happen next." Kirkus Review
