Death Treads Lightly

by

A buried body near Carson City reopens a cold case—and leads Detective Viv Reyes to two more disappearances, a failed tech empire, and a professional killer hiding in the shadows. As the investigation moves from the Nevada wilderness to the dark web, Viv discovers that the truth is more dangerous than the grave that concealed it.

About The Book

In the Nevada wilderness, some bodies are meant never to be found.

When hikers and their dog discover skeletal remains near Carson City, Detective Viv Reyes is assigned what first appears to be a long-buried missing person case. The victim is soon identified as Ryan Wilson, a gifted technology engineer who vanished three years earlier during a corporate hiking trip. But Ryan’s death is only the beginning.

Viv’s investigation uncovers two more missing men, each tied to the high-stakes world of technology startups, venture capital, and Silicon Valley ambition. The cases were separated by time, geography, and circumstance—until Viv sees the pattern others missed.

As Viv and her team follow the evidence from cold case files to dark web networks, the list of suspects grows: a disgraced entrepreneur, a grieving widow, a ruthless investor, and a woman with secrets of her own. Yet every answer leads to another question, and every motive seems to conceal a deeper betrayal.

“I have read all three of Jack Kelly's books, Cahill's Journal, The Pallbearer and now Death Treads Lightly and each one has been such an enjoyable experience and so fun to read. The story lines are gripping but his characters are so likable it makes his books impossible for me not to read through in one sitting. I look forward to each new story and I hope Jack continues to write. He's extremely talented.”

“If, like me, you prefer to skip the "fluff" and get right into details that matter [who, what, why, when], this is your kind of read!  With some humor added.”

“In this, the 2nd book of the Viv Reyes series, Viv takes on a three year old cold case reopened by the discovery of bones in a shallow grave. With a smooth, easy-to-read style, the author leads the reader to follow Viv as she patiently coordinates a mixed-disciplined group trying to connect seemingly unrelated dots. The conclusion of this recommended read makes you hope there will be more books in the series.”
