The Calling follows young Bridget Barrett from the strange circumstances of her birth through her unwilling realization that she has been called to represent the human race in a confrontation with humankind’s oldest adversary. Bridget is led through her dark preparation by a Roman Catholic priest who is tormented by the events of his past and torn by the assistance he must offer; a Harvard professor of comparative religion whose faith and training are challenged by a mysterious card in an antique Bible; and an ancient warrior of spirit whose very existence is contrary to Bridget’s deepest beliefs, but essential if she is to be successful in the final confrontation.
