Finding Yourself where God Rebuilds You
by Pr. Dewald Koch
If you have ever felt like you were not enough…
not spiritual enough, not strong enough, not healed enough, not worthy enough—then this book was written for you.
If you have ever battled with insecurity, shame, rejection, fear, disappointment, or the exhausting pressure of trying to prove yourself, you are not alone. Beneath so much of our striving is a deeper question we quietly carry:
Who am I really?
Who are you when the masks come off?
Many believers spend their lives trying to become someone they think God will accept, while quietly carrying wounds, shame, fear, rejection, and uncertainty about who they really are. Yet the Christian life was never meant to be a theatrical performance. It was meant to be a journey of discovering who God says you already are in Christ.
In Born to Be, pastor, missionary, and church planter Dewald Koch invites readers on a transformative journey into the heart of Christian identity. Drawing from more than three decades of ministry, personal encounters with God, and his own story of rebuilding after brokenness, he explores what it means to live not for acceptance, but from acceptance; not as an orphan striving for approval, but as a beloved son or daughter of God.
Through biblical teaching, practical reflection, personal testimony, and Spirit-filled encouragement, you will discover:
• How God intentionally designed you with purpose and value
• Freedom from the orphan mindset of fear, comparison, and striving
• The healing power of embracing God as your loving Father
• What it means to live from identity instead of performance
• How Christ dwelling within you transforms everyday life
• The fullness, authority, and inheritance available to every believer
• How to walk boldly in your God-given uniqueness and calling
• The confidence that comes from knowing who you are in Christ
Written in a warm, conversational style that feels like sitting across a coffee table with a trusted pastor, Born to Be combines biblical depth with practical discipleship, making profound spiritual truths accessible to both new believers and mature Christians alike.
If you have ever struggled with insecurity, shame, rejection, spiritual performance, or questions about your identity, this book will help you discover the liberating truth that changes everything:
You are not who your past says you are. You are not who others say you are. You are who God says you are.
Discover your identity. Embrace your inheritance. Become who you were born to be.
After decades of ministry, missions, and rebuilding, I write to help people encounter the transforming grace and Kingdom of Jesus.
Dewald Koch is a pastor, church planter, teacher, and cross-cultural ministry leader with more than 25 years of experience serving in both local church and international mission environments. Since entering ministry in 1993, his journey has taken him across cultures, nations, and seasons of both profound breakthrough and personal rebuilding. His ministry has been shaped not only through theological study and leadership experience, but through deeply personal encounters with the transforming grace of God. Together with his wife, Angelina — a qualified psychiatrist with a passion for emotional and spiritual restoration — Dewald co-leads The Lapidarist Stone, a ministry devoted to helping Christian leaders, churches, and believers discover healing, identity, purpose, and Kingdom culture. Their work combines biblical truth, pastoral wisdom, emotional health insight, and practical leadership development in a holistic approach to transformation. Much of Dewald’s ministry was forged in cross-cultural missions, particularly in the Far East, where years of church planting and ministry development shaped his heart for people from every background and culture. Over the years, he has planted churches, strengthened ministry teams, mentored leaders, and helped believers navigate seasons of calling, restoration, and spiritual formation. His voice carries both apostolic conviction and pastoral compassion — a combination that marks much of his teaching and writing. His writing style reflects the same conversational and deeply reflective tone that has characterized decades of preaching and discipleship ministry. Rather than writing from theory alone, Dewald writes from lived experience — from moments of failure and renewal, faith and uncertainty, surrender and encounter. His passion is to help people encounter Christ in a way that transforms not only belief, but identity, culture, relationships, and purpose. Dewald is the author of several developing discipleship and leadership resources, including Born to Be, Born for Purpose, Kingdom Culture, and A Messy Life. Through these works, he seeks to bridge theology and everyday life, helping believers live out the visible reign of Jesus in authentic and practical ways. At the center of his ministry is a simple conviction: that people are most transformed not merely by information, but by encountering the presence, truth, and love of God in a deeply personal way.
