Recipes, Culture, And Pride From Our Hands

The Jewish Deaf Kitchen

by Matanah

This book began as a community initiative—created with love, teamwork, and a shared mission: to celebrate and connect the Jewish Deaf community through food, tradition, and storytelling.

Compiled by volunteers Tina Jo Breindel and Sharon D. Wilson, this cookbook features recipes from Jewish Deaf individuals and families. Each dish represents more than just ingredients and instructions—it carries memories of gatherings, holidays, comfort foods, and family traditions passed down through generations.

Inside, you’ll discover a comforting blend of classic Jewish staples, beloved family favorites, and community-cherished dishes, all shared with pride and care. More than a collection of recipes, this book is a tribute to belonging—celebrating culture, preserving memories, and keeping community stories alive through food.

This fundraising effort reaches far beyond the kitchen. Every purchase supports the Jewish Deaf Congress (JDC) and the International Jewish Deaf Festival (IJDF), strengthening connections, increasing visibility, and helping create meaningful gathering spaces for Jewish Deaf people worldwide.

About the distributor: Now available online through Matanah, the cookbook continues its original fundraising mission—circulating into new homes, nourishing new tables, and sustaining the community that brought it to life.

Thank you for being part of this ripple: cook from it, share it, and help this community project continue to flourish.
