About the book

Man of Earth

What does it mean to be a man in a world transformed by feminism, artificial intelligence and ecological breakdown?

'Man of Earth' is a search for a new story of masculinity – one rooted in belonging, mastery, service and care for life.

For generations, Western men inherited a familiar script: provide, compete, protect, succeed and remain in control. That script is now dissolving. Many men are left searching for direction and a meaningful place in a rapidly changing world.

'Man of Earth' explores how masculinity was shaped by patriarchy, biology, desire, conquest and cultural expectations – and what might emerge as the age of domination begins to lose its authority.

Drawing on personal experience, history, anthropology, ecology, interviews and journalism, Mik Aidt travels from the long shadow of patriarchy and the feminist rebellion to bonobo communities, the Trobriand Islands, lost initiation rituals, relationships, community and the search for a more mature form of strength.

This is an accessible, personal and provocative invitation into a difficult conversation. It asks whether men can move from performance to authenticity, from isolation to belonging, and from power over life to responsibility within it.

The Man of Earth is neither a perfect man nor a new masculine stereotype. He is a man learning where he belongs, what he is responsible for and how his abilities can serve something larger than himself.

If you are curious about masculinity, human maturity and the kind of civilisation we are becoming, this is a book for you.

Mik Aidt - Man of Earth

Mik Aidt is a Danish-born journalist, broadcaster, author and climate communicator based in Geelong, Australia.

Mik is the founder of the Centre for Climate Safety and co-host of 'The Sustainable Hour', a weekly radio programme and podcast exploring climate, democracy, community and cultural change.

His work examines how the stories we inherit shape the way we live – and how new stories might help humanity meet an age of ecological breakdown and artificial intelligence with greater maturity, responsibility and care.

Alongside journalism, Mik creates podcasts, songs, events and public conversations that bring together facts, emotion and social change. He increasingly sees himself as an advocate for life on Earth, exploring the relationships between people, community and the living world.

'Man of Earth' grew from his experiences as a father, partner, journalist and campaigner, as well as years of conversations with men and women about masculinity, belonging, desire, relationships and purpose. The book brings these strands together in a personal and provocative exploration of what men might become as the old story of domination loses its authority.

Mik also co-hosts the podcast 'Service to Life' and the Danish-language podcast 'Grib dagen'. His writing can be found at mikaidt.substack.com, with more of his work at climatesafety.info.
