When Ophelia finds herself caught between loalty and fate, what and who will she choose?
When twenty-year-old Ophelia Blackwood starts to dream of gods and a green-eyed stranger, her curiosity outweighs caution. She's always lived by her father's rules-until she discovers she's been blessed with an immense power by the same gods she was taught never to trust. Now, caught between loyalty to the man who raised her and the desire to uncover the truth, Ophelia must decide her own path forward.
Adrian Thorne has spent his life within the city of Thegonia, desperate to make amends for his past mistakes. But lately, his dreams of a mysterious woman have been a distraction making him more reckless than usual. When she appears before him in the flesh, the illusion becomes reality and impossible to ignore. His charm may hide his scars well, but the connection between them is undeniable-and so is the danger it brings.
As Ophelia and Adrian begin unraveling the truth behind their dreams, their powers, and the Divine gods who claim to rule with benevolence, they must decide who can be trusted. Some blessings are actually curses, some truths are tangled with lies, and picking a side isn't always as easy as it seems.
“⭐⭐⭐⭐ This romantasy is full of an interesting magic system and strong sensory details. Those are things that mean a lot to me when reading. I found myself enjoying the exploration of the world. The Gods pov was a super nice touch and helped with the story progression. Adrian was easily my favorite part of the entire book. His humor and banter was almost always believable and made me giggle more than once. The fight choreography was very well written and I could genuinely see the scenes in front of me. My one and only issue came from the romantic relationship itself. For my personal reading taste, things progressed more quickly than I found believable, based on Ophelia’s emotional description and early chapter’s behavior. I wanted more quiet conversations, even more arguments, to help develop the relationship. I understood and appreciated the time crunch inside of the plot, but it made it hard for me to connect some times. I genuinely love a lot of the creative ideas across the journey, and mostly enjoyed the read. I just personally finished wishing I’d had more time for connection with the characters.”

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I was in a readers slump, when I saw this book promoted on tiktok. Two days I was locked in and so sad to be finished. It’s well paced and definitely had me pleading with my invisible audience while reading it. If you enjoy fantasy I think you’ll enjoy this book.”

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thank you to the editors and contributors of A Divine Lie for providing this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own. A Divine Lie is a powerful and thought-provoking read that blends emotion, tension, and layered storytelling into something truly compelling. From the very beginning, this book draws you into a world where truth is fragile, perception is dangerous, and every revelation feels like it comes at a cost. M.N. Carter crafts a narrative that is as immersive as it is unsettling, constantly challenging the reader to question what is real and what has been carefully constructed. The editorial work by Ty and Laura Josephsen helps shape the story into a cohesive and engaging experience, ensuring each thread connects in a way that keeps the momentum strong throughout. What stood out most was the atmosphere—tense, reflective, and deeply immersive. There’s a constant undercurrent of unease that makes every chapter feel significant, as though something important is always just beneath the surface. This creates a reading experience that is both gripping and emotionally charged. The characters are complex and layered, each shaped by secrets, belief systems, and personal contradictions that make them feel real and unpredictable. I appreciated how their internal struggles were given just as much weight as the external conflict, adding emotional depth to the broader narrative. At its core, A Divine Lie explores themes of truth, faith, perception, and the stories we choose to believe. It’s a book that lingers in your mind long after you’ve finished, inviting reflection and interpretation. "Sometimes the most dangerous lies are the ones we build our lives around—and the hardest truths are the ones we refuse to see." If you enjoy darker, introspective storytelling with layered themes, emotional complexity, and a strong sense of atmosphere, A Divine Lie is a compelling and memorable read. ✨ Tropes & Themes 🖤 Psychological Fantasy ✨ Truth vs. Illusion 🔮 Mystery & Intrigue ⚖️ Moral Complexity 💔 Emotional Conflict 🌙 Atmospheric Storytelling 🗝️ Secrets & Revelations 📖 Thought-Provoking Narrative 🔥 Slow-Burn Tension 📚 Multi-POV Structure”

“⭐⭐⭐⭐ ARC Review I really enjoyed this book. I was curious about Ophelia and her father throughout the whole book. I wasn’t sure if her father was trying to protect her or use her. Also loved the relationship with Aiden. I loved how they were drawn to one another. I can’t wait for the next book to see how everything plays out!”

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This was a captivating story and I cannot wait to read more. The slow burn romance was wonderful. It was paced perfectly. Throughout the book, I couldn’t choose just one side-who’s wrong, who’s right? There isn’t a clear indication on right and wrong. Just like, there’s no clear indication on what the main characters will do. I enjoyed the fact that I didn’t know what would be done until I read the words.”

“⭐⭐⭐⭐ ARC Review Thank you M.N.Carter for sharing your story with me. We’re gonna break this down between these three things.. 1. World Building.. This is definitely a book one. The first 10-15% of the book was mostly world building and it took me a little bit to get into the story. It was slow to start but man once the 18-20% mark.. I was invested. The world was unique and had some surprising POVs. 3.75 stars 2. Character/Chemistry.. This.. this is where the book absolutely shines. The banter the fun back and forth.. you don’t know why but when you do… the chemistry between the two was palpable. I loved the way she was strong but also soft.. and the way he was an uncertain honorable hero.. so freaking good!! 4.5 stars 3. Plot.. the plot took a little bit to get going but boy when it did it never stopped!!! I loved that I wasn’t sure what direction it was going (as someone who guesses plot twists fairly easily) It was well thought out and the plot twists near the end unfolded beautifully! 4 stars Overall. If you love Romantasy, a cocky MMC who is down bad. An FMC who finds herself little by little and a world where you dont know who the bad guys are. You will absolutely love this!”

M.N.Carter writes emotional romantasy where the gods are not the heroes—and love is rarely safe. Her debut novel, A Divine Lie, explores the fragile balance between life and death, fate and defiance, and what happens when the Divine is forced to reckon with its own creations. Drawn to mythology and morally complex characters, she creates stories where power comes at a cost and every choice has consequences. By day, she works in education, sharing her love of storytelling and critical thinking with her students. By night, she’s usually lost in her own worlds—overthinking plot twists, rewriting scenes, or chasing characters who refuse to behave. When she’s not writing, you can find her: Reading fantasy (and mentally rewriting endings) Running on caffeine and late-night ideas Building worlds she’d absolutely never survive in At the heart of it all, M.N. Carter writes for readers who love: - slow-burn romance - fated connections - morally gray characters and stories where the line between hero and villain isn’t so clear
