A Story of Justice Delayed

Death After Sundown…

by Our Kind of Stories

The darkest days of the Civil Rights Era saw so much violence visited upon people seeking basic freedoms. From students being assaulted at lunch counters in North Carolina to Freedom Riders throughout the south, violence was expected with the cause deemed worthy of the prospects.

One of the darker part of American society were the Sundown Towns. These were towns that prompted the publishing of The Green Book allowing Black travelers across the nation to avoid them. In effect, you best not be seen in this towns after dark; in other words, do not be there when the sun goes down!

No matter your station in life; no matter your credentials; anyone of color ran the risk of death in any of these places.

These sundown towns gained notoriety recently when two major hurricanes wiped out many of them in North Carolina!

This story is about a notorious town called Rising Sun in my home state of Maryland. We were cautioned to never stop for any purpose, day or night. The violent murder of the parents of twin brother and sister sparked a resilience within them to pursue justice...a justice with teeth to effect change.

Enjoy this sobering but powerful story!

Enjoy this story that was given to me in a dream (visions and dreams, yeah?) so in keeping with what I believe was a directive from the Most High, I present this story to you!

Paradise Reimagined

The winds of change have shifted even more in 2050 than in 2032. The lives of American expats in Belize are facing a sudden challenge that could disrupt the life they have developed in a country they now call their own. This change will change the interaction between them and the native Belizeans who have heretofore suffered under the economic power wielded by Black retirees and upwardly motivated people looking to escape the racism of the United States.

Enjoy this read as you see how imagination and forward-thinking can change not only the lives of the main characters but an entire nation.
