DALE EVANS (born Lucille Wood Smith; October 31, 1912 – February 7, 2001; and for a long time
Frances Octavia Smith) was one of the most successful cowgirl entertainers of the 20th Century, with
fame in radio, movies, and television, Though known best for her partnership with longtime husband
Roy Rogers, Dale was already famous and successful before they met. Before she became a country
star she was a well-known singer of jazz, swing and big band music. Her best legacy, however, is that
of a country cowgirl, and her comics series is all that. QUEEN OF THE WEST: DALE EVANS first
appeared in Dell Comics' Four Color Comics series #479 and 528. Her own comic book series QUEEN
OF THE WEST: DALE EVANS, began with issue #3 and ran for a total of 22 issues, from 1954-1959. The
series contains the artwork of comic masters such as Russ Manning and Jesse Marsh, among others.
