Russ Manning (January 5, 1929-December 1, 1981) is fondly remembered for his artwork on the comic
MAGNUS, ROBOT FIGHTER and his time on both the TARZAN and STAR WARS newspaper strips. Like
every great commercial artist though, he had to have started somewhere before reaching such lofty
heights. Dell Comics, with their seemingly endless line of comics based on movies and television
shows, was a perfect fit for Manning’s realistic art style.
This first volume showcases Russ Manning’s artwork from: “QUEEN OF THE WEST DALE EVANS #6,
WESTERN ROUNDUP #16, ROY ROGERS & TRIGGER #124, SEA HUNT #4, FOUR COLOR COMICS #1115-
RICKY MARTIN, 77 SUNSET STRIP #1, CAPTAIN SINDBAD #1, THE GALLANT MEN #1 and CAPTAIN JOHNER
AND THE ALIENS #1.
This book was compiled with the best images currently available. That stated, these comics are over
sixty years old. The best efforts have been made to make the pages as enjoyable as possible but not
every panel is perfect and some allowances for the age of the books need to be considered when
judging the overall contents.
