For colorful science-fiction excitement comic books were a massive well-spring of
creativity, especially during the 1950s. In the midst of the Cold War, on the cusp of
the space race, anything seemed possible. The Charlton Comics series OUTER SPACE
is a shining example of imaginations unleashed. Most of the writing for the title
goes uncredited, but the artwork is out of this world. The list includes Steve Ditko,
Matt Baker, Charles Nicholas, Al Williamson and many more. This collection
includes all nine issues of Charlton’s OUTER SPACE, originally published during 1958
and 1959. As an extra bonus, the 1968 stand alone issue is also included.
This book was compiled with the best images currently available. That stated, these
comics are over sixty years old. The best efforts have been made to make the pages
as enjoyable as possible but not every panel is perfect and some allowances for the
age of the books need to be considered when judging the overall contents. Many of
the redundant advertisements have been removed to keep the cost of the book
down.
