MYSTERY MEN COMICS, one of the earliest comic books in America, spawned some of the most
popular heroes of the Golden Age of Comics: Blue Beetle, The Green Mask, Zanzibar The Magician,
Rex Dexter of Mars and others got their starts in the earliest issues, and a little later we are
introduced to The Lynx, Captain Savage, the Moth, The Wraith and so much more! MYSTERY MEN
had a modest run, 31 issues (1939-1942) but brought some of the top talent of the day: Dick Briefer,
Bob Powell, Lou Fine, Will Eisner, Joe Simon and George Tuska, to name a few. In comics history
only a few series can claim such an epic lineup of characters and creators – MYSTERY MEN is a rare
gem.
This book was compiled with the best images currently available. That stated, these comics are over
eighty years old. The best efforts have been made to make the pages as enjoyable as possible but
not every panel is perfect and some allowances for the age of the books need to be considered
when judging the overall contents. The stories here were created in a less enlightened time and
there are some images that may offend modern readers.
