MLJ’s ZIP COMICS was an excellent example of Golden Age greatness. The series featured Steel
Sterling, Scarlet Avenger and Mr. Satan providing two-fisted superhero action. There were
adventures in the Old West with Nevada Jones. Also included in the lineup were jungle sagas with
Kalthar, tales of the South Seas with Captain Valor as well as magical mysteries with Zambini. Zip
comics was also known for its stellar cast of creators that included Charles Biro, Kin Platt, Irv Novick,
Mort Meskin, Frank Volpe, Lin Streeter, Edd Ashe and Irwin Hasen.
This book was compiled with the best images currently available. That stated, these comics are over
eighty years old. The best efforts have been made to make the pages as enjoyable as possible but
not every panel is perfect and some allowances for the age of the books need to be considered
when judging the overall contents. The stories here were created in a less enlightened time and
there are some images that may offend modern readers.
