SNOWMOBILLING ACROSS AMERICA
A FRITZ SPRANDEL ADVENTURE
In the 1970's a well known adventurer, Fritz Sprandel, had attempted several extraordinary dares or challenges. One of those challenges was to drive a snowmobile from coast-to-coast starting at the Pacific Ocean and completing the task by driving his snowmobile into the Atlantic Ocean. There were many dangers and challenges along the way including no snow at the start of the trip. Although everyone said the trip could not be done, Fritz wound up with a spot in the Guinness Book of world Records. This story really keeps going. Just this past December (2024) at the age of eighty years old, Fritz was invited to lead a pack of Vintage Snowmobiles across the Mackinac Bridge. Everyone has that inner voice daring them to do something amazing. Fritz's story's are all true and well documented. Enjoy the book and take an adventure.
FINDING FRITZ
THE HEART OF AN ADVENTURER
GO AHEAD – I DARE YOU! Theses words changed the course of Fritz Sprandel’s Life forever.
This is a real-life story of an Adventurer that was a dared to do, different excursions that most people could only dream about. Fritz had a rocky childhood and was always striving to prove his worth. This created an unstoppable determination in everything Fritz did in his life including all of his adventures.
Fritz’s big adventures all took place in the anything goes culture of the late 60s and 70s over a span of 10 years. There is no way what he did then could be done today. Everything now must be registered, licensed, and otherwise tracked by authorities. But back then, it was easy to get off the grid. To kind of blast by officials on whatever vehicle you were driving and thumb your nose at their inattention.
It was initially fun. But it turned out that Fritz couldn’t get officially sanctioned for his adventures—for example they pulled his name out of the Guinness Book of World Records when they realized that going 5,500 miles across the USA by snowmobile was illegal—they took away the title but kept the snowmobile itself which was on display in the Guinness Book of Records Museum in the Empire State Building in New York City.
On Fritz's first big dare, he wound up captured and put in prison in Cuba with 4-5 of the top ten most wanted men in America. After about forty five days, through negotiations, Fritz was snuck back into the United States where he was watched and monitored by the FBI and probably the CIA for over two decades.
On all of the Adventures, it was the relationships that were established along the way that meant the most to Fritz. This is a story not just about finding out where Fritz traveled to, but also, finding out who Fritz really is. Each person impacted Fritz in a unique way. Many of those relationships are still an important part of who Fritz is today.
This is a fascinating story about Fritz’s childhood, past adventures, the impact on his life for over five decades and what is on the horizon.
