While leading an archeological excavation in Sonora, Dr. Alayna Archuleta discovers a spiral symbol that matches the pendant her mother gave her. Suddenly, she is whisked through a spinning portal. She is definitely not in Mexico any longer, and maybe not even on planet Earth.
Alayna always wears the copper spiral maze pendant her mother gave her on the day she left for college—so of course, she’s wearing more than a decade later on the first archaeological dig she’s had a chance to lead herself.
She’s in Mexico with her team, set to lead an important excavation… but she’s only one day into the dig when she realizes that she’s on the cusp of a much bigger discovery—and she isn’t in Mexico anymore… In fact, she might not even be on the planet.
The pendant is calling Alayna, but she has no idea what she’s being called to… and when she sees the exact same symbol tattooed on someone else, she knows there’s more to it than she imagined. It seems that Sasha has been called here too, and their first mission is to figure out where they are and why they’re there… and what the spiral maze symbol means. But as they explore the unfamiliar landscape they’ve found themselves in, they quickly discover that they’re not the only ones who were called to this mysterious place… and they’re not the only ones carrying a spiral maze.
As their party grows, they discover more about the magical qualities of the strange land they’ve found themselves in… and once they are six, they realize that it’s no coincidence that they’ve found themselves in this strange realm.
Together, they are The Hexad, and each of them is destined to face trials and challenges they’ve never known on Earth. They have a calling in life far greater than any of them knew—and the stakes are high.
None of them knows whether they’ll ever make it back home… and if they do, they have no way of knowing if the story will be over or if this is only the beginning.
With a cast of captivating characters and ethereal magic, this epic story will have you losing yourself in themes of love, friendship, adventure, and belonging… and when you do, you might even start to look at your own place in the world a little differently.

"The Spiral Awakens opens in familiar territory with an archaeological dig in Mexico, then swiftly pulls the reader into something far more mysterious. What makes this novel especially compelling is its blend of external adventure and inner transformation. Each member of the Hexad enters Aztalun carrying grief, doubt, or unfinished wounds, and the trials they face are as emotional as they are mystical. The world-building is vivid and cinematic. The spiral maze, ancient prophecies, and symbolic magic feel thoughtfully imagined, while unique abilities tied to each character add creativity and texture to the story. The characters themselves are distinct and relatable, and their evolving relationships give the novel a strong emotional core. "

"Enjoyed it. I'm a huge fan of fantasy and sci-fi, and this book doesn't disappoint. Starts out as an archaeological dig in Mexico, and before you know it, the story turns into this magical, otherworldly adventure full of mystery and destiny. The whole “spiral maze” idea is creative, and the characters feel real enough and easy to connect with. I’d say a perfect mix of fantasy, friendship, and discovery that keeps you turning the pages. Honestly, I think it could easily be made into a movie, with the world-building so vivid and cinematic. I’d definitely read the sequel to this if there is one!"
