Bright Star
Mary Lou Green
She was an unknown superstar, world famous, selected personally by Vidal Sassoon in 1968 to lead his Toronto studio. In those days she was a single mom, just 25 years old, who suddenly found herself on the fast track to international renown. Her profession took her on an odyssey from London to Paris to Munich, and she landed in the frenetic world of New York City in the 1970s, when artists were kings and media stardom was in global explosion. She loved the spectacular and pushed the envelope for more daring and outrageous and unthinkable stunts - haircutting underwater, with laser beams, upside down, in the middle of a skydive from 10,000 feet altitude. She met the brightest and the greatest celebrities of her era, transiting the universe of world famous artists, musicians, film stars, writers. With a powerful work ethic she styled a remarkable 17 music videos in eight months time in 1983-1984. Eventually she returned to Toronto, where she enjoyed a long association with the filmmaker David Cronenberg, and led the haircutting team on the triple Oscar-winning film "Brokeback Mountain," directed by Ang Lee. Mary Lou Green is remembered as a legendary creative force and a remarkable human, greatly cherished by all whose lives she touched. This book is an affectionate tribute to her life's journey, commemorated by those who knew and loved her best.
