Still Warrior Origins Book 2

Raised by the Fight

by Bruce R Black

Casey Mason has been taught not to react.

But when cruelty at school, threats against his family, and violence on their land begin to converge, stillness is no longer enough by itself.

Raised by the Fight is a story of a young man learning when to yield, when to stand, and how to protect what matters without becoming consumed by anger. Guided by Scott and the Still Warrior philosophy, Casey discovers that true strength is not about avoiding conflict.

It is about knowing how to move through it without losing yourself.

About The Book

Casey Mason is growing up in the shadow of a man who has already fought his way through violence and come out the other side changed.

Scott has taught him to breathe before reacting, to notice before moving, to yield without collapsing, and to remain steady when others are trying to control him through fear, humiliation, or force.

At first, Casey’s training is tested in the hallways of school, where racism, bullying, and constant provocation push him toward the very reactions he is learning to master. He discovers quickly that restraint is not always rewarded—and that doing the right thing can still carry a cost.

Then the pressure moves closer to home.

A development company begins targeting his family’s land. Survey markers appear without permission. Threats are disguised as business. Fires are set. Neighbors are intimidated. And the conflict slowly changes from paperwork and pressure into something much more dangerous.

As the stakes rise, Casey is forced to confront a harder question:

When does restraint become avoidance?

And when does stillness have to move?

Under Scott’s guidance, Casey learns that the Still Warrior path is not about becoming passive, fearless, or untouchable. It is about remaining present under pressure, choosing action instead of reaction, and protecting life without allowing anger to become the thing that leads.

By the time violence finally reaches their home, Casey and Scott are no longer simply teacher and student.

They stand together.

Raised by the Fight is Book Two of The Still Warrior Origins, a character-driven story blending family, martial arts, personal growth, prejudice, community conflict, Taoist and Buddhist philosophy, and the difficult journey from anger toward responsibility.

Because sometimes the fight does not teach you how to win.

It teaches you how to remain.

What if preparing for death could teach you how to live with less fear?

The Tibetan Book of the Dead, Made Human brings the ancient wisdom of Tibetan death teachings into plain, practical language for modern readers.

This is not a scholarly translation, and it does not ask you to adopt a belief system. Instead, Bruce R. Black explores the deeply human lessons within these teachings: fear, uncertainty, attachment, awareness, grief, and the difficult art of letting go.

Through twelve accessible chapters, you’ll learn how to recognize fear without being ruled by it, loosen the need for control, meet change with greater steadiness, sit more calmly with someone who is dying, and understand grief as a transition rather than a failure.

Each chapter begins with an adapted traditional teaching, followed by a clear modern explanation and a practical Still Warrior reflection.

You do not need to have death figured out.

You only need the willingness to meet the unknown with a little more awareness, a little less resistance, and a steadier mind.
