Finding Healing, Hope, and Wholeness After Loss
by Jonathan E. Rudd
Restored and Made Whole: Finding Healing, Hope, and Wholeness After Loss
Restored and Made Whole is not a book about avoiding grief—it is a book about learning how to live faithfully within it.
In this deeply personal and theologically grounded work, Jonathan E. Rudd invites readers into the sacred space where sorrow and faith meet. Written in the aftermath of the unexpected death of his wife of forty-three years, this book offers a rare blend of pastoral honesty, biblical reflection, and lived testimony. It does not offer quick answers or easy clichés. Instead, it walks with the reader through the slow, often painful process of learning how to carry both loss and faith at the same time.
Drawing from Scripture, personal experience, and a lifetime of ministry, Rudd explores the complex realities of grief—shock, anger, doubt, loneliness, and the unsettling silence of God. He speaks to those who have prayed and not yet received answers, who have trusted God and still found themselves walking through the valley. With clarity and compassion, he shows that faith is not the absence of sorrow, but the willingness to trust God in the presence of it.
At the heart of Restored and Made Whole is a powerful biblical re-reading of restoration. Rather than portraying restoration as a return to what once was, Rudd demonstrates—through the story of Job and the broader witness of Scripture—that God’s restoration is often deeper, quieter, and more transformative than we expect. It is the restoration of the soul. It is the return of peace, worship, and joy—not in spite of our scars, but through them.
The book also confronts one of the most difficult spiritual questions believers face: What happens when the God you trust feels silent? Through gentle reflection and careful exegesis, Rudd shows that divine silence is not divine absence, and that even in the darkest moments, God is still at work—healing, forming, and restoring.
Readers will find in these pages:
A biblically grounded understanding of grief and restoration
Honest reflections on doubt, anger, and unanswered prayer
A pastoral voice that validates pain without diminishing faith
Insight into how suffering forms spiritual maturity
A renewed vision of restoration that centers on inner transformation rather than external circumstances
More than anything, this book offers companionship. It sits beside the reader as a fellow traveler—one who has walked through loss and is still learning to walk by faith.
Restored and Made Whole is written for anyone who has lost someone they love, for those who feel weary in their faith, and for anyone searching for hope that does not deny the reality of pain. It reminds us that while grief may change us, it does not have the final word. God is still restoring. God is still healing. And even in the midst of loss, He is making us whole.
