Ancient Traveler Tales

The Drift

by

The Drift is Project Hail Mary meets American Gods — a working engineer's first-contact problem-solving novel built on the premise that Earth's pantheons are real people on a real ship, and that the truth of where humanity came from has been hunting us ever since.

About The Book

Before they were gods, they were us.
Ten thousand years ago, a fleet of star travelers passed through Earth's solar system, walked among our ancestors, and helped seed the species we became. When the catastrophe came, they tried to clean up what they had created... with flood, with ice, with everything they had. Then they were forced to leave. The fleet has drifted ever since, remembered on Earth only in myth, scripture, and song.
Now their children are back. And they are not alone.
A hidden enemy within the fleet has been hunting them for generations, and the plague tearing through Earth's hospitals didn't come from any animal. The dying old engineer in one of those beds was marked by the fleet's watchers when he was a child. He was always going to be the answer. He just never knew there was a question.
Two dying civilizations. One war ten thousand years in the making. One last chance to end the drift.

Old guy learning to write!

Will Span grew up watching early NASA launches from his living room at 4am, his dog Brownie beside him, waiting for John Glenn to clear the launchpad. An avid reader from an early age, he started with Tom Swift, then mixed in mythology from every corner of the world. Later he found Erich Von Däniken’s Chariots of the Gods. Stories started forming. They stayed in his head for years, waiting. Once he retired, he finally put them to paper, and then had to learn to write. English was never his strong suit. Science and tech were. Ten years of considerable stubbornness later, he decided a few of those stories were ready. He is now navigating the bewildering landscape of modern publishing. He is still not entirely comfortable with any of it. His current dog doesn't seem to mind.
