It’s an energy—a fire within—that you must learn to master. This book is your practical guide to becoming a master of motivation.
Written by an award-winning former executive, this guide uses the revolutionary Motivational Maps® tool to make the invisible drivers of human energy visible, decoding what truly drives people. Forget generic business clichés. Move beyond temporary perks and quick fixes. Stop guessing what drives your people. It’s time to know. Through real-world case studies, you will learn to understand and harness the vast, untapped energy within you and others.
Learn the language of motivation, take control of your team’s inner fire, and watch your performance soar.

What readers are saying
“Detailed, Comprehensive and superior work on mapping motivation available This is a fabulous book by Zsuzsa Czagler, and I would say that aside from my own primary source books in the Routledge series, this is almost certainly the most detailed, comprehensive and best work on mapping motivation currently available. There are many things to praise about it: • her candid self-assessments; • the range of related topics covered (NLP, the work of Dr David Hawkins, Reiki, psychometrics, Milton Erickson, et al); • the in-depth exploration of motivational mapping in a wide range of contexts (eg appraisals, teams, coaching etc); • the brilliant and sometimes innovative use of graphics (eg satisfaction scores superimposed on motivational bar charts); • the thorough, fascinating and detailed case studies that are extremely illuminating; • and even the fun factors as we near the end of the book (eg Maps for Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny!). On top of all this, Zsuzsa is not frightened of stepping outside the strict parameters of Map lore, as it were: we tend to avoid talking about home factors in the map work environment, but Zsuzsa rightly points out: "sexuality love children can override all workplace topics in an instant”. Absolutely. So, if you want a really roller-coaster and expert ride on Motivational Mapping this is certainly the book for you; it is already a Hungarian classic, and perhaps soon will be an English-speaking one too.”
— James Sale, Creator of Motivational Maps(R), Author of 5 books about Motivational Mapping, UK
“All you need to know about motivation If you don’t understand motivation you will after reading zsuzsa’s comprehensive book on the topic. If you have anything to do with getting the most out of other people this is a must read”
— Mark Terrell, UK
“Many leaders want to lead companies, but they need to lead people, which is much more difficult. People are not machines; they have individual goals, desires, and emotions. You have to be able to motivate them if you want to become a true leader. Zsuzsa's book provides help in this. ”
— Edina Heal, Founder of the Egyenlítő Foundation, ex-Google Director, Hungary
“ especially recommend this book to parents raising teenagers, to teachers, and to leaders, but also to everyone else. We are all inclined to expect internal motivation from ourselves without any consciousness, yet it is worth dealing with our inner sparks, knowing ourselves enough to understand what moves us from within. Likewise, it can also be important how we can have a good effect on others, so that we can also rekindle this fire in them and make them motivated without conflicts. Zsuzsa's book helps in exactly this; we can get to know our motivators and become true supporting partners for others as well, if we know their motivators too, so it is worth its weight in gold. I believe that this knowledge will help many, and moreover, it is immediately and easily applicable in everyday life; I have already incorporated it into my work. This is an honest and smart book, I recommend it with all my heart!” ”
— Andrea Pusztai, writer, Ilion Writers' Club mentor and editor, Hungary
“Your book really resonated with me. I went straight into work from school, and for years I had this odd cycle — every two years, my motivation would dip, my health would follow, and I’d have to change jobs, move somewhere new, even end relationships. Later in life, I did my PhD in biochemistry, and the same thing kept happening. Eventually, that cycle stretched, but it never went away completely — until now. Since I found editing and writing, I don’t feel the need to keep changing everything to feel well and fulfilled. Reading your book reminded me why: because joy, purpose, and motivation aren’t just nice extras — they’re essential to staying healthy. I keep finding your words popping back into my head during the day, little reminders to stay connected to what gives me energy. That’s such a gift for a book to give a reader, and I’m so grateful I got to experience it.”
— Dr. Mekhala Spencer, Editor, USA
“I recommend this book with all my heart to everyone who sometimes wakes up tired, without enthusiasm, and would like to find a tangible tool that shows the way in life's most burning questions. What captivated me most was that Zsuzsa presents the essence of Motivational Mapping and self-awareness through her own personal stories—her failures and successes. In doing so, the method becomes not only understandable but also deeply authentic. The book's other strength is the more than a decade of senior executive experience that is woven throughout the narrative, further strengthening its credibility and relevance. These two threads—the personal and the professional—are harmoniously intertwined and make the work special. Despite the serious topics, the book's editing is playful and illustrative, it can almost be used as a handbook, which makes reading and practical application easier. The lovable graphics, created by Zsuzsa's daughter, make the experience even more personal and lend a special intimacy to the reading. For me, it is of special value that I can incorporate the perspective found in the book into my coach-trainer work, whether in individual or group form. This book not only inspires but also provides a practical guide on how to find our own internal motivations and resources.””
— István Kléh-Reinle Life & business coach, Hungary
“I love this book; besides being a truly smart book, it is at once very human, honest, and at times, it touches my very soul! So, this is another way to write a professional book! My heartfelt congratulations on it!!!!!””

“An intriguing and accessible framework for motivating oneself and others. An executive coach guides leaders in applying the Motivational Maps method in the workplace. Czagler is a former media agency executive and leadership coach who’s certified in motivational author and poet James Sale’s Motivational Maps methodology. Her book on motivating leaders and employees in the workplace was named the 2024 Coaching Book of the Year in her native Hungary, and she’s now translated it for English-speaking readers. Starting with her definition of motivation as “the energy initiated by an internal impulse, which is the answer to why a person begins to do something for their own joy,” the author traces her own career journey, highlighting her motivating factors. She then introduces the basic Motivational Maps framework, which combines elements of Abraham Maslow’s psychological ideas, Career Anchors (a theory related to workplace satisfaction), and the Enneagram personality typing system into nine motivator types divided across three themes: Growth, Achievement, and Relationships. The author discusses several topics, including motivation’s importance in the workplace and its underlying factors, the limits of money as a motivator, the high cost of demotivation, and dealing with conflicts and managing teams, providing a variety of examples and scenarios to illustrate the practical applications of core concepts. Cute cartoon icons highlight key lessons and reflection questions, and numerous charts, diagrams, illustrations, and sidebars enhance the text. The author also provides a summary of important takeaways, a list of materials for further reading, and a free downloadable workbook. Czagler’s style is enthusiastic, personal, and direct, at times verging on oversimplification—she asserts that one can tell people are motivated when their “eyes sparkle.” Her explanations are clear, using simple analogies like comparing regular motivation check-ins to routine maintenance on a vehicle. Some advice, such as providing regular feedback, is hardly new, but the quantifiable results on reducing employee turnover and increasing client satisfaction are compelling. The author occasionally repeats points, and some material, such as famous quotations and “Fun Fictional Case Studies” of Santa and the Easter Bunny, seems like unnecessary filler. Still, the book presents engaging ideas in an accessible format.”
