Lenses for Teaching: Learning for All begins with a simple idea: before we can change the way we teach, we may need to change the way we see our learners.

Drawing from more than three decades as a classroom teacher, principal, superintendent, university professor, doctoral advisor, and school improvement specialist, Dr. Deborah Goodwin explores the assumptions educators bring into the classroom and how those assumptions influence the opportunities we create for students.

Through personal stories, educational research, and practical classroom experiences, Goodwin examines learner differences, neurodiversity, engagement, relationships, instructional planning, and the importance of providing multiple pathways to meaningful learning. Rather than offering another program for teachers to implement, she invites educators to develop a different lens—one that looks beyond labels and deficits to recognize strengths, possibilities, and the individual learner.

Lenses for Teaching is grounded in the belief that different is not deficient. Learning for All does not mean lowering expectations or creating a separate lesson for every student. It means maintaining meaningful expectations while becoming more intentional about how students access learning, engage with it, and demonstrate what they know.
