Book Overview
In an age when many churches struggle to retain young people and authentic revival seems increasingly elusive, "Josiah Generation Revival" presents a compelling biblical blueprint for the greatest youth awakening in history. Drawing from the extraordinary life of King Josiah—who began seeking God at sixteen and launched a nation-transforming revival by age twenty—this book reveals how God is raising up a new generation of young reformers who will not settle for entertainment Christianity but will demand authentic encounter with the living God.
The Urgent Need
Current statistics reveal a crisis in youth ministry: one-third of young adults find church "boring," one-quarter see faith as irrelevant to their careers, and tragically, one-fifth say "God seems missing from my experience of church." Meanwhile, our culture dismisses children and teenagers as problems to manage rather than prophets to nurture. Author Carl Van Vliet challenges this perspective with a revolutionary truth: the next great revival may well come through the very young people we're overlooking.
Carl Van Vliet writes from both pastoral experience and personal conviction. Having three decades in pastoral ministry, he brings authentic insight into the challenges and opportunities of nurturing young believers. His own childhood experiences of destructive words from well-meaning church members versus life-giving prophetic declaration provide powerful illustrations of how adult influence can either crush or cultivate young destinies.
For Parents: Comprehensive guidance on creating spiritually formative homes, speaking prophetically over children, and prioritizing authentic faith over religious performance.
For Church Leaders: Strategies for developing mentorship programs, creating meaningful ministry opportunities for youth, and building churches that prioritize God's presence over entertainment.
For Young People: Encouragement to embrace their calling regardless of age, with practical steps for moving from passive learning to active God-seeking.
For Intercessors: Understanding of how to pray strategically for the rising generation and recognize God's preparatory work in young lives.
Target Audience
Primary readers include parents, pastors, youth workers, Christian educators, and intercessors who are passionate about seeing God work through the next generation. Secondary audiences include young adults seeking their calling, church leaders interested in revival history, and anyone involved in children's or family ministry.
The book appeals to readers across denominational lines who share a hunger for authentic spiritual awakening and believe that God can use anyone—regardless of age—to transform their generation.
The book stands apart from typical youth ministry resources by treating young people not as problems to solve but as potential prophets to prepare. It challenges the entertainment-driven approach that characterizes much contemporary youth work, calling instead for authentic spiritual formation that produces genuine God-seekers.
