The Power of Gathering
by Dr Randall Bixby and Lesli Lamb-Bixby
The Carter family discovers that their table is more than a place to eat—it is where hearts connect, love is practiced, and God’s character is reflected. Hearing God Together
Meet the Carter family as they begin a journey of learning how to be a family as God designed. Beginning with how to receive God's heart and plan for your family by learning to hear His voice together. A life skill your family to walk with God. "My sheep know my voice" What does God want to say to you about your family? Disciple your children in a way that equips them how to disciple your grandchildren.
Creating a Healthy Family Culture
When a noisy Saturday morning turns into hurt feelings and sharp words, the Carter family learns to pause, name their emotions, and choose kindness. Guided by Mom, Dad, and Papa Joe, the children discover that healthy family culture grows when God’s character leads their responses, bringing peace back home.
Building Trust and Keeping Agreements
As the Carter family prepares for a park day, Grace forgets their agreement and makes everyone late. Instead of blaming, the family chooses honesty, apology, and repair. Through gentle guidance, they learn that keeping promises builds trust, responsibility, and stronger relationships—showing God’s design for family life together.
Hearing One Another to Understand
At a noisy family dinner, the Carter children talk over one another until Mom and Dad help them pause and listen with patience. As each person feels heard, the family discovers that listening is a loving reflection of God’s character, bringing peace, understanding, and kindness back to their home.
Agreeing with Truth
When Noah realizes he didn’t finish his homework, he must choose between hiding the truth or admitting it. With gentle guidance from his family, he learns that feelings are real but not in charge. By agreeing with God’s truth, Noah discovers honesty brings peace, courage, and strength to family life.
Repairing Relationships and Being Free
After Noah breaks Grace’s favorite marker, anger and silence fill the Carter home. With loving guidance from Mom, Dad, and Papa Joe, the children learn that forgiveness does not erase hurt, but it brings healing. As Grace forgives Noah, the family discovers repair, freedom, peace, and God’s heart together.
Discovering Our Family Identity
As Papa Joe shares the family photo album, the Carters discover that every family has a story shaped by joy, hardship, and God’s grace. Together, they name the kind of family they want to be—loving, honest, forgiving, and growing—learning that identity shapes purpose, belonging, and legacy across generations. Book Seven in The Carter Family Legacy Series, a 15 book family discipleship curriculum for ages 5-9 complete with an engaging story, a Parent Guide including discussion questions and family exercises to practice the learning from the books. The children''s books are also a companion series to The Family School 15 lesson journey for parents.
Choosing Family Values
As the Carter family reflects on who they are, they also begin choosing who they want to become. With prayer, conversation, and shared values, they dream about a future marked by patience, bravery, kindness, and faithfulness—learning that healthy family culture is built intentionally, together, in God’s way.
Identity Made Visible
As the Carter family reflects on who they are and who they are becoming, Papa Joe introduces the idea of a family shield. Together they choose symbols of love, listening, repair, and light, creating a visible reminder of God’s design for family and the values they want to live each day.
Guiding Without Shame
Coaching with Love After a rough afternoon, the Carter home slows down. Instead of scolding, Mom and Dad put on their “coach hats,” asking curious questions: What happened? What matters now? What’s your next step? Noah, Grace, and Leo discover mistakes are teachers, ownership brings peace, and love guides growth in their hearts.
Learning Together through Life
Live, Laugh, Learn On a messy, marvelous day, the Carters cook, camp in the living room, and hit snags. Tempers flare, giggles return. Together they pause, name feelings, breathe, and choose better actions. Joy and learning grow side by side as the family discovers feelings are real—but wisdom and love lead them forward.
Facing Hard Times Together
As One—Facing Hard Times Together When a sudden health scare hits, the Carters gather at the table. They list what’s known and unknown, share fears and hopes, pray, and choose small next steps. Each takes a role—calls, meals, encouragement. Moving together as one, they find courage, peace, and practical help for the journey ahead together.
The Treasure Hunt
Passing on the Most Important Things On a backyard treasure hunt, Papa Joe leads the Carters to hidden clues: wisdom at the table, a quiet prayer spot, stories of faith, and the family shield. As they piece it together, the children see God’s treasures are lived, shared, and passed on—one ordinary, faithful day at a time.
Blessing Your Family
Passing the Torch At a candlelit table, the Carters gather with grandparents and friends. One by one, blessings are spoken over Noah, Grace, and Leo—stories remembered, strengths named, futures prayed. A torch is passed as light, words, and love mark their hearts, sending them forward to lead with courage and faith and joy.
