Chronicle of the 12th Realm: Book 3

Hunt for Balerophon

Ancient evil raises its ugly head
The war is over and a year of peace has seen inter-realm travel and commerce grow. Aaron and Petra’s wedding approaches and everything starts to fall into place. JT’s obsession with an ancient technology – automobiles – is giving new hope for Earth’s embattled economy and his plans for a renewed tourism industry have even excited the terrestrial bureaucracy.
Then task force Paladin, one of the Coalition’s most powerful battle groups, returns from the Badlands – decimated by Raiders, something thought impossible. When Mondrac sees the damage to them, he races to the 12th Realm to investigate.
Next, one of the five Peace Planets, Caprica, is attacked by a Raider force. It’s a soft, strategically unimportant target but the Raiders lose two ships; to an armed private yacht. This pointless action is at odds with the Paladin incident, but are they connected?
A new biological threat from the Sedition forces could decimate the human race, Petra discovers her true Vargan heritage as she and Aaron join battle with the enemy, again. The action, drama, and intrigue build until the final confrontation with evil, and the climax of this trilogy.

Praise

“Greg Mutton’s novel ‘Hunt for Balerophon’ delivers a satisfying finale to his ambitious trilogy, masterfully weaving together multiple narrative threads into an explosive conclusion that will bring its readers to the edge of their seats. The novel’s pacing is masterful, alternating between quiet character moments and pulse-pounding action sequences. The raid on the secret facility showcases the author’s talent for crafting high-stakes action scenarios brilliantly. While the relationship between Aaron and Petra continues to evolve naturally, their impending marriage adds emotional weight to their dangerous mission. JT's fascination with ancient technology provides both comic relief and thoughtful commentary on economic recovery in a post-crisis society. Finally, the precise technical descriptions of space battles make them both thrilling and accessible. The sword fights add a personal dimension to the combat. Once again, Mutton tastefully handles the romantic elements, including some mature content, and uses them to serve character development. I cannot wait for more from this author. ”

Greg Mutton

I live in Australia in a quiet bayside village and I write Sci Fi adventure stories.

I live on the mid north coast of New South Wales, Australia in a quiet bayside village with my wife, son and 3 cats.
My stories are about people who rise to the challenge, all with a distinct “Aussie” flavour. No matter how advanced we become, no matter what technology we invent, human beings will always define their existence by their actions, both individually and collectively. My stories explore the real physical and metaphysical abilities people have, but may have forgotten over the ages. Action features in all my stories. I use examples from life – emotions, love, despair, romance – all are infused into the characters and plots. I build worlds and civilisations that are “real” and credible.
As an author, I enjoy using literary license to create stories and worlds, including alien species, and possible future technologies. As one of the greats of Science Fiction once said “whatever man can imagine, he will eventually do.”
