“The Anointing” is a widely used term in Christian circles, yet for many believers it remains mysterious—something reserved for a few “special” people. Others speak the language of revival and power, yet lack the encounter, revelation, and transformation that true anointing brings. The Church does not need more “Christianese.” It needs the authentic power of God made visible in His people.

We will also confront the reality that there are measures, dimensions, and realms of anointing—and that it can be increased, carried, and released for the advancement of His Kingdom. These truths are not mere theory. They are grounded in Scripture and verified through testimony, experience, and the enduring faithfulness of God.
My prayer is that the Holy Spirit ignites in you an unquenchable hunger for His presence—so fierce that every lesser desire fades. May you become a carrier of His anointing for the glory of Jesus Christ, fully awakened, fully empowered, and fully yielded to be used by God in this final hour.

I (Jim) grew up as a farm boy in southeastern South Dakota, where wide skies, long days, and hard work shaped my early years. Life was simple then—rooted in family, faith, and the steady and familiar work schedule of my father’s large farm. I had no reason to believe that, at fifteen years old, a sudden illness would shatter everything I thought I knew about life, death and eternity.

What began as an illness quickly turned catastrophic. I contracted bacterial spinal meningitis, and within days my condition spiraled downward. My fever surged to a staggering 106 degrees. I slipped into a coma. Doctors rushed me to the hospital, but their prognosis was devastating and there was little they could do. After five days of relentless decline, they sat my parents down and prepared them for the unthinkable: my death—or, if I survived, a life marked by severe brain damage, a vegetable. Hope, as far as medicine was concerned, was gone.

The last thing I remember in my physical body was collapsing at home.

Then five days later, without warning, I became aware of myself in a cold, unfamiliar room. Confused, disoriented, I wondered where I was and how I had gotten there. As I tried to make sense of my surroundings, something impossible happened—I began to rise. I floated upward, effortlessly, until I found myself about 3 feet above the bed.

Slowly, I drifted toward the foot of the bed, stood upright on the floor and turned around. That’s when I saw the body beneath the blankets.

First the feet.
Then the legs.
The chest.
And finally…the face.

My face!!

There it was on the pillow—motionless, pale, unmistakably mine.
How could this be? I was standing here, fully aware—yet my body was lying there, lifeless. The realization struck with overwhelming force: that body is me… I feel alive… but I was no longer in my body.

The instant that truth registered, it was as if a trapdoor opened beneath my feet.

WHAM.

I began to fall—down, down, down—plunging into an endless darkness. There was no way to stop it. No ground beneath me. No light ahead. Falling into a darkness so deep it seemed endless…powerless to stop it, unable to escape it. Now a terrifying, horrific fear overwhelmed me! And an awareness that I was being pulled away from everything I had ever known.

But the darkness was not the end. What followed would alter the course of my life forever.

This book is not speculation. It is the true account of what I experienced when my spirit left my body—what I saw, what I encountered, and how that moment continues to shape my faith, my calling, and my understanding of eternity.
