Mattheüs beweert dat Jezus de profeten vervulde, maar wat blijft daarvan over wanneer de Torah de bewijsregels bepaalt?
Mattheüs beweert herhaaldelijk dat gebeurtenissen in het leven van Jezus plaatsvonden “opdat vervuld zou worden” wat de profeten hadden gesproken. Miljoenen christenen hebben die woorden als bewijs aanvaard. Maar een citaat is nog geen profetie, een literaire overeenkomst is nog geen vervulling en een wonder verleent niemand het recht om de Torah te veranderen.
In Het Evangelie van Mattheüs onder de Torah-test wordt elk hoofdstuk opnieuw onderzocht, zonder latere kerkelijke leer als vooraf vaststaand uitgangspunt. Wat zegt de Hebreeuwse tekst werkelijk? Behoudt Mattheüs het oorspronkelijke onderwerp, publiek, tijdstip en verbond? Bewijzen Jesaja 7, Hosea 11, Micha 5, Jesaja 53 en Psalm 110 werkelijk wat het christendom ermee probeert te bewijzen?
