Ross MacDonald and three of his postdoctoral friends were drinking beer in Gatlinburg when he showed them that he could snuff out a candle by thinking at it. The friends accused him of performing magic, but he assured them that it was just quantum mechanics.

Leanne has graduated with a PhD in physics. Now Peggy is graduating with her PhD in English and the group is creating a company called Quantum Agents. Ross and Leanne are getting married; George and Chrissy, Carl and Brandy, and Frank and Peggy are engaged. At the same time, Carl and Brandy are working on a major paper on the mind-body problem and thinking about teleportation.

However, a chemical engineering firm, CEXPro feels threatened by the Quantum Agents’ technology and wants to purchase and suppress it. And the CEXPro president will do anything to stop Quantum Agents from destroying his company with their quantum capabilities.

Dean S. Hartley III has been the Principal of Hartley Consulting since 2001. He worked one summer at the Psychometrics Lab in Chapel Hill, NC. In college, he worked as a chemistry lab technician at Milliken Research. He spent one Christmas vacation as a salesman in a (smoking) pipe store. During four years of active duty in the Army he ran war simulations for the Joint Staff. He worked in operations research and production planning for the Milliken textile company for 10 years. He worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and other DOE facilities for 15 years. He received an A.B. degree from Wofford College in math and foreign languages and his PhD in piecewise linear topology from the University of Georgia. He is the author of Predicting Combat Effects, Unconventional Conflict: A Modeling Perspective, An Ontology for Unconventional Conflict, An Ontology of Modern Conflict: Including Conventional Combat and Unconventional Conflict, and co-author of Cognitive Superiority: Information to Power, the last four published by Springer. He and his wife Eileen live in Oak Ridge, TN, and have two children, Theresa Nelson and Elise Henderson, and three grandchildren
