Common questions about royalties.

It means we never take a cut of your sales. Your royalty is the full difference between the retail price and the printing/shipping costs. On other platforms, they take an additional 30–65% commission on top of printing costs. We don't.

The 40%+ is a net figure after printing and shipping costs. Physical books have real production costs. But compared to Amazon (where authors typically net 7–18% on paperbacks), 40%+ is roughly 2–5× more per book sold.

Three main ways: (1) Increase your retail price — a higher price means a bigger margin. (2) Choose B&W interior instead of color — lower printing cost. (3) Choose a smaller trim size — less paper, lower cost. The pricing dashboard shows your exact royalty before you publish.

Books.by does not charge transaction fees. Standard Stripe payment processing fees (approximately 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction) are included in the printing/shipping costs shown — what you see as your royalty is what you actually receive.
